An old-school, drive-in cinema is touring the UK and it's planning a three-day stopover in Cardiff this summer.

Called @TheDriveIn, the cinema will hold six shows from August 20-23 with a family-friendly afternoon screening and a late night viewing each day.

Organisers say '80s classics and 2010's blockbusters films will be preceded by a range of entertainment, including stand up comedy, bingo or silent car discos.

The cinema will use radio transmission kits to broadcast the video's sound straight to each car's radio. All vehicles then park around a massive LED screen to watch the film.

Food and snacks will be available to order online through a mobile app and roller waiters will bring your order to a drop off point by your car.

Though a number of summer events have already been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, the organisers say the cinema has social distancing built in and guests and employees won't need to mingle.

The company said: "Cars parked over two metres apart provide naturally built-in social distancing and entry will be via license plate checking, meaning no interaction between staff and guests is necessary.

"Toilet facilities and strict hygiene measures in line with government guidelines will ensure a safe environment for all, providing not only a coronavirus-proof way of going out, but a rare opportunity to bring back a few hours of normal life."

The cinema is also honouring the NHS by reserving ten free car spaces at each event for key workers.

Tickets for the cinema costs £35 per car and will go on sale online on May 27. The exact venue for the event in Cardiff has not yet beeen announced.
