McDonald's are opening dozens more restaurants across the UK for drive-thru and delivery today.

A spokesman said: "This week we will reopen Drive Thrus across the UK and Ireland, starting with 168 locations from 11am today. We will also see a further 22 restaurants open for McDelivery today.

"We are glad to be back but it will look a little different and may take a little longer, so please bear with us.

- We have fewer employees in our kitchens to enable our teams to social distance and work safely

- We will have a limited menu (no breakfast or Shakes for now) and will open for reduced hours (11am-10pm)

- We encourage you to use contactless payment methods and cap your spend at £25

- For those visiting our Drive Thrus, you can browse the menu, order and pay ahead using the My McDonald’s App - we’ll start preparing your order when you’re near the restaurant.

"We’re delighted to be returning to communities across the UK and Ireland, thank you for your continued support and patience. We look forward to seeing you soon."

The fast-food chain closed in March due to the coronavirus crisis and has slowly been reopening branches across the UK.

McDonald's will reopen all its drive thrus in the UK and Ireland this week.

From dates to rules and the new limited menu, here's everything you need to know.

McDonald's had already opened 44 restaurants for drive thru but the rest will follow this week.

By June 4, 2020, 1,019 McDonald's restaurants will have reopened either for McDelivery or drive thru in the UK and Ireland.

In a statement last week, a McDonald's spokesperson said: "We can today announce that by 4th June, 1,019 of our restaurants will have reopened, either for Drive Thru or McDelivery.

"This means every Drive Thru in the UK and Ireland will reopen between Tuesday and Thursday next week and we will start to expand the availability of McDelivery too.

"This is only possible following the hard work of the teams in our 44 pilot restaurants. Over the last fortnight, our employees, franchisees and suppliers have worked tirelessly to implement new procedures to enable safe working so we can now help all parts of the UK and Ireland to enjoy the return of the Big Mac."

What is the limited menu?

The reduced menu includes the following:

  • Big Mac
  • Quarter Pounder with cheese
  • McChicken sandwich
  • Vegetable deluxe
  • Hamburger
  • Cheeseburger
  • Double cheeseburger
  • Chicken McNuggets
  • Chicken Selects
  • Filet-o-Fish
  • McDonald’s fries
  • Mozzarella dippers
  • Veggie dippers
  • Happy Meal veggie dippers
  • Apple and grape fruit bag
  • McFlurry (Malteasers, Smarties, Oreo)

Breakfast items, Chicken Legends and milkshakes remain unavailable for now.

What are the changes at McDonald's?

As well as a limited menu due to smaller teams, the fast-food chain is running reduced opening hours and has placed a spending cap of £25 on customers.

It is also asking people to make contactless payments wherever possible and has strict social distancing rules in place.
