A popular 1950s American-style gelato cafe on Cardiff's St Mary Street has closed suddenly.

Creams, a gelato parlour which opened almost exactly three years ago, was locked and in darkness on Sunday, when it was due to be open.

A paper notice taped on the inside of the windows read: "These premises have today been seized on the authority of the landlord. Notice is hereby served and forfeiture of lease effected."

The notice, dated August 6, 2019, says it was served by debt enforcers Debt Squared on behalf of the landlord TE Church Street Ltd.

The ice cream counter at the front of the shop was still full of ice cream. But any customers turning up were left disappointed.

Creams was the first Welsh branch for the acclaimed London-based dessert company , Creams Cafe Ltd.

Opening in Cardiff in August 2016, Creams sold sundaes, crepes, Belgian waffles, gelatos, sorbets, shakes , juices, smoothies and coffees.

The company, which has 32k followers on Instagram and more than 5,000 followers on it's Cardiff Facebook page has a number of shops in other UK cities.

The Cardiff Facebook page was last updated on Thursday, August 8, enticing people to enjoy a Pina Colada Sundae with the limited edition pineapple and Pina Colada gelatos.
