A new cafe and bar has opened in Swansea's Uplands, and you may recognise its name.

Sililo Martens, the man behind the popular Flickering Light bar on Wind Street together with business partners Owain and Dan Faull, has opened a brand new venture at 27 Uplands Crescent called The Bookshop.

The name gives a nod to the former occupier of the unit, Uplands Bookshop, which was open there for 70 years before closing in August due to the impact of online trading and their lease coming to an end.

It also features a Boss Brewery bar inside, becoming effectively its third base on top of their brewery in Landore and Copper Bar.

Mr Martens said: "It's initially going to be a coffee bar in the day and a bar in the night, and we'll be opening a restaurant in January.

"It's going to have a London chic vibe with polished concrete decor.

"We've kept the name Book Shop as we understand what history means in Uplands. Residents are so proud of what they are and it was one of the last independent book shops in Britain."

Mr Martens added: "We're giving credit to what it was but it's not going to be a book shop. We've had the older crowd saying they are delighted the book shop is coming back already but we've had to explain it is not the case.

"We will have a few books dotted about but it won't be themed like that in any way."

He added: "We want to concentrate on focusing local companies, and we'll be getting in Gower Coffee, and will be competing with Costa Coffee across the road.

"We'll have a synergy with Boss Brewery, and we'll be educating people on how it's brewed as well. "

Sarah John, of Boss Brewing said she had thought about bringing the popular brand to Uplands for a long time.

"We've been waiting for the right site to come along and the bookshop became available," she said.

"So much has gone on there and we're delighted to be able to collaborate with Sililo and it can be a flagship for us in Uplands."
