The original Escape into the Park organisers are bringing back the massive dance festival once again.

Dubbed Swansea Festival, it will return to Singleton Park for a huge weekend of dance music that is promised to be "bigger and better than ever before."

The Botanical Gardens will provide the setting for the "ultimate VIP experience" and there will be a main stage as well three marquees with DJs and musicians pumping out tunes.

It will take place over the weekend of July 25, 2020, and is set to run over three days. It will mark 20 years since the festival first launched and 25 years since the club first threw open its doors.

Escape on Northampton Lane, which closed in 2015, was one of the best known clubs in Wales.

Escape into the Park was the biggest dance festival on the Welsh calendar and attracted world-famous DJs.

It put Swansea firmly on the dance music map.

People went all out to get into the spirit of Escape Into The Park.

The likes of Calvin Harris, Tiësto, David Guetta, Paul van Dyk, Steve Angello, Fedde Le Grand, Erick Morillo and Underworld played at the Swansea festival over the years.

The original Escape owner and Escape into the Park organiser Jonathan Wignall said: "If you were one of the hundreds of thousands who came to Escape into Park in the early days, then this event is for you."

He said the legendary festival is going back to its roots.

"The Saturday line up will bring the hottest names on the scene right now, plus many old favourites including some of our original resident DJs.

"It will absolutely remind you just why Escape and Escape into the Park became such an important part of your life," he added.

He said there will be something for everyone.

"The Sunday line up will cater for those who want something a little different," he said, with  live bands, the latest pop dance and classic 90's House "to add a touch of nostalgia".

A Friday event is also planned but details are yet to be announced.

When Escape opened in 1995, it positioned itself as the top nightclub in Wales for dance music.

There were two rooms in the club – one to the left which was trance and one to the right, which was house.

Escape into the Park was launched in 2000.

Over the years, it went from 12,000 in its first year to 25,000 people in the years after.

DJ Danny Slade told us previously that the festival was "brilliant from the word go".

People really made an effort to dress up for the event

He said: "It meant a lot to Swansea and it meant a lot to Wales and the UK. We had what was regarded as one of the super clubs in Britain and we got people from all over Europe coming here.

"We had some huge bookings back then, the biggest we had was Tiësto. We actually flew to Amsterdam to personally ask him if he would play.

"We put our hearts and souls into it."

In 2006 the festival was sold to Angel Music Group, a management company for the likes of Godskitchen, Global Gathering, Polysexual, and others.

It was announced in 2012 that they were to take a "rest year" but they never returned.

Escape regular Judge Jules told us last year "something was missing" from the dance scene in Wales when Escape into the Park disappeared.

"Escape In The Park was an iconic event and a highlight of the clubbing calendar, and when it as cancelled there was certainly something missing from the dance scene in Wales," he said.

The idea to bring it back was a bolt from the blue for Jonathan.

"I wasn't even thinking of it earlier this year," he said.

He saw a nostalgic look back at the clubbing scene in Swansea on WalesOnline.

A flood of comments came in, momentum grew and there were calls to bring back the  festival in its original form once again.

Jonathan said: "I am, and always have been Escape, and this festival is celebrating 25 years of the club and and 20 years of Escape into the Park, which I created."

It has not been confirmed if it will be a regular event or a one-off, but given the buzz on its social media page, the news of its return will go down well with new and old clubbers alike.

The festival has been announced as the city celebrates its 50th anniversary, alongside the 100th anniversary for Singleton Park itself.

“There is still so much affection for Escape and Escape into the Park”, said Swansea Councillor Robert Francis-Davies.

“Jonathan Wignall was the first promoter to bring world-famous superstar DJs to Swansea, including Pete Tong and Tiesto, and we are pleased to be working with him and many of the original team to bring this much-loved event back.“

There used to be some huge crowds attending Singleton Park for the event.

Jonathan said he wants to ensure that the festival is a "realistic experience for all price ranges."

"I'm going to release a limited number of early bird tickets at midday on July 1, 2019."

"We're also introducing a payment option to spread the ticket cost. But for those who want to pay for the the ultimate VIP package, you won't be disappointed", said Jonathan.

He said anyone who wants tickets should keep an eye on their social channels for the July 1 release: facebook.com/Escape2520, twitter.com/SwanseaFestiva1 and their Instagram handle is @swanseafestival
