Newport's first ever Christmas market is finally here.

You'll find 24 stalls running through the city centre, along Commercial Street, from Westgate Square to the junction with Hill Street.

The market, which is running for 20 days, features a variety of stalls selling Christmas gifts, food and drink.

It kicked off on Tuesday, December 4, and will be running daily until 5.30pm, with late openings on Thursday.

The stalls will be sticking around until Sunday, December 23.

Newport Now BID manager Kevin Ward said: “We’re really excited to be bringing this market to the heart of the city centre for the first time.

“A 20-day event in the crucial few weeks before Christmas will increase footfall and trade for everyone in the city centre.

“Our aim is for this to become an annual event.”

And if traditional Christmas goodies aren't your thing, there's even a stall selling 3m-long phone charger cords.

We visited on the opening day - and these are the food stalls that you have to check out at Newport's first ever festive market.

1. The Bratwurst stand

The first thing that springs to mind when you think of a Christmas market is probably a traditional stall flogging German-style sausages.

And Newport's first festive market has exactly that.

The Bratwurst stand has three choices of traditional sausage - original, cheesy and spicy - which all cost £4.50.

2. Bar Bavaria

A fully stocked Bavarian-style bar, selling all sorts of boozy (and non-boozy beverages).

They've got German beer, mulled wine on tap, and a range of festive cocktails.

Mulled wine starts from £4 and cocktails cost at £7 each.

There's also a little beer garden with benches and canopies where you can enjoy your festive tipple.

3. Homemade Giant Cookies and Muffins

If you fancy something on the sweeter side, this is the stall to go to.

Not only do they have a range of festive-themed desserts - think snowmen cakes - they're also selling chocolate marshmallows on sticks.

4. King Grill

No Christmas market is complete without a stall selling some sort of roast dinner.

Whether it's in the form of a sandwich, on a tray or, like this stall in Newport is doing - wrapped up in a giant Yorkshire pudding.

The Yorkie pud wrap from King Grill costs £6 and you get a choice of meats - which can also be sold as a carvery sandwich.

5. Caribbean Sky Juice and Grill

Something a little different to your usual Christmas fare, one of the stalls at the market is selling a range of Caribbean products.

From Jamaican patties (at £2.50) or curried goat (£7), there's plenty to get your teeth into here.

6. Kara's Kitchen

Another slightly unusual stall to spot at Christmas, Kara's Kitchen is serving up a variety of paella dishes.

The stall owner, Steve Hewgill, learnt how to make the dish while living in Spain, and it's what he did for a living out there - so you know it'll taste amazing.

He's also selling panko chicken and pulled pork.

There are a number of meat, fish and veggie paella options, all starting from the £6.50 mark.
