Bakery chain Jenkins is beginning to reopen stores across the region as lockdown measures begin to ease in Wales.

The company closed all of its stores in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Swansea, Bridgend and beyond at the end of March when the UK went into lockdown.

But sausage roll and iced bun fans will be glad to hear that the popular bakery now joins a list of takeaway food shops like McDonald's and KFC that have started re-opening this month.

The company, which has been rooted in South Wales communities since it opened in 1921, will start a 'phased re-opening' of their 30 shops starting next week.

Jenkins will open four of their branches on Tuesday, June 9 and will trade from 8:30am until 2pm.

The shops that will be opening first are:

- Thomas Street, Llanelli

- The Avenue, Llanelli

- Cross Hands

- Gowerton

Jenkins have confirmed that not all products will be available and that social distancing practices will be in place.

General Manager Richard Mynott said: "Now that lockdown restrictions are starting to lift, we will start a cautious approach to re-opening.

"A great deal of work has gone into our re-opening plan and we have made sure that all the risk assessment procedures, including staff surveys, are in place and that we have the proper control measures in place to ensure everyone has confidence in the new way of working and trading.

"We will not be able to offer the full range of products and customers will notice a new way of shopping. At the heart of everything we do will be the safety of our customers and staff."
