A restructuring plan has been announced for Jackson Public Schools.
Superintendent Errick Greene proposed the plan, which the school board unanimously approved earlier this month. As part of the plan, six JPS leadership positions will be created or significantly revised as of July 1, according to the school district.
"These positions are largely focused on our efforts to transform teaching and learning in Jackson Public Schools and begin to provide the structures necessary for greater effectiveness and alignment to the needs of the district," Greene said in a news release.
Under the plan, the deputy superintendent of academics will become the chief academic officer charged with overseeing each of the assistant superintendents and other school support areas.
Research and accountability will become data and accountability. The office will be moved from the deputy superintendent of academics to the chief of staff.
Public and media relations will become public engagement, and the responsibilities of the department will be expanded.
Student support services will become the office of climate and wellness.
The curriculum and professional development office will be merged into the office of teaching and learning in an effort to bring together teacher development and curriculum.
An assistant superintendent role was added, increasing the number from four to five assistant superintendents.
A chief talent officer will be added, although the role will not be funded or filled until after the 2019-2020 school year.

Dr. Greene is holding his final listening session Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. at New Horizon Church.
The purpose is to hear the concerns and hopes of the citizens of Jackson regarding Jackson Public Schools.
