DEFENDANTS OF GROSS NEGLIGENCE AND RECKLESS DISREGARD OF CAUSING HER MOTHER'S DEATH. THEY BLAME A SLOW AMBULANCE RESPONSE. ACCORDING TO THE SUIT FILED IN HINDS COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT ELIZABETH NEAL WAS AT BIBLE STUDY WHEN SHE STARTED HAVING CHEST PAINS IN MAY 201 NEAL SUFFERED FROM CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE THE FAMILY CLAIMS NEAL WAITED FOR MORE THA AN HOUR BEFORE PARAMEDICS SHOWED UP. WE SPOKE WITH MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LAW SCHOOL PROFESSOR MATT STEFFEY ABOUT THE LAWSUI IT IS UNDOUBTEDLY TRAG FOR A FAMILY MEMBER TO DIE IF IN FACT MORE PROMPT EMERGENCY SERVIC WOULD'VE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE ACCORDING TO THE LAWSUIT THEY DIALED 911 AT 8:30 FOR AN AMBULANCE TO TAKE MS NEAL TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. THE OPERATOR SAID PARAMEDICS WERE ON THEIR WAY. THEY WAITED THIRTY MINUTES AT 9 O'CLOCK THEY STARTED CALLING 911 AGAI OPERATORS KEPT TELLING THEM AN AMBULANCE WAS ON THE WAY. THEY CLAIM IT WASN'T UNTIL 9:36 THAT PARAMEDICS GOT TO THE CHURCH WHERE NE WAS IN FULL CARDIAC ARREST. STEFFEY SAID THE SUIT RAISES SERIOUS QUESTION IF THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF PROMINENT CITIZENS AND FORMER LEADERS CAN'T GET THE EMERGENCY SERVICES THE EXPECT I THINK IT MAY CAUSE PEOPLE TO QUESTION WELL WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF US. NEAL WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE HER FAMILY SAID SHE LATER DIED. ROSS ADAMS 16 WAPT NEWS. A-M-R SAID IT COULDN'T COMMENT ON THE LAWSUIT.

Family members of a Mississippi woman who went into cardiac arrest and died after waiting about an hour for an ambulance are suing the county, city and ambulance service for negligence.Elizabeth Neal, 63, began feeling the symptoms of congestive heart failure while at Bible study in 2018 and called 911, the Clarion Ledger reported. The lawsuit says an ambulance arrived nearly an hour later as Neal entered full cardiac arrest. CPR was performed, but she later died at a hospital.Neal's daughters Tameka Dinkins and Rosalind Yarber filed for unspecified damages against Hinds County, the city of Jackson and American Medical Response. Yarber is the wife of former Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber.Hinds County Attorney Pieter Teeuwissen said the county's not responsible because the ambulance company is independent.
