A big water main broke in Jackson on Thursday.
Residents on Suffolk Drive said it happened around midmorning.
The break sent a river of water running down the street.
The residents said the city responded quickly by putting down barriers in the road but some neighbors said the barriers didn't turn the waters away quickly and some yards, homes and garages were taking on floodwaters.
One woman said this is the worst break she's seen in her 40-plus years living in the neighborhood.
"The neighbor behind me, it's going into his garage and it's gone way into the backyard into my work shed, and it's in my front yard and creeping up to my front door," said Barbara Neil.
People in the Suffolk Street neighborhood are stocking up on bottled water, in anticipation of a boil water notice.
