Two Central American men called U.S. Border Patrol for help after getting lost in the Texas desert when they crossed into the U.S. from Mexico on Sunday.
Agents out of Hebbronville, Texas, were dispatched early Sunday to rescue two men who “were lost and in need of help” in a remote area north of the border.
Border Patrol found an Ecuadorian and Salvadoran man near a large, handmade “SOS” sign, which is the universal term to signal help is needed.
The men were looked over and determined only to be “tired, but not in need of any additional medical attention,” according to Laredo officials.
A senior Border Patrol agent who commented on the incident on Twitter pointed to the irony of the situation.
Here’s something that doesn’t get much attention. Illegal aliens call #USBP when they need help!

Border Patrol said traveling by foot through the region, part of which does not have a wall separating the countries, is risky because of dangerous environmental conditions.
A public affairs official in Laredo did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the men will be deported.
