Lindsey Graham: Military kids who may be impacted by national emergency cuts are ‘better’ served by a wall

.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday a border wall would “better” serve middle school students in Kentucky than a project set to lose money as part of President Trump’s national emergency declaration.

In an interview with CBS News, “Face the Nation” moderator Margaret Brennan asked Graham about a slew of military projects that could be cut, including the operation of a middle school at Fort Campbell, Ky., and the construction of housing for military families.

Graham said it will ultimately be up to the president to decide where to get the money, before focusing on what redirecting military funds would mean.

“I would say it’s better for the middle school kids in Kentucky to have a secure border,” Graham said, adding, “We’ll get them the school they need. Right now we’ve got a national emergency on our hands.”

Graham said securing the border with a wall will help the administration stem the flow of drugs into the country.

Trump declared a national emergency Friday to fund a U.S.-Mexico border wall which the White House said would redirect $3.6 billion in military construction funds to the effort.
