Perth widow narrowly escapes injury as a car crashed into her home

By staff writers

A Perth widow narrowly survived a frightening car collision on Saturday after a vehicle smashed through the front of her home into her living room.

A Perth woman who was dozing on a lounge in her home's front room was woken to the terrifying sound of a car smashing into the house.

The 57-year-old Kalamunda woman was asleep on a couch in the room when the car ploughed into the home and became wedged in the spot she had been laying just moments before.

Neighbour Colin Cockburn told 9News that he heard the car smash into the home and came out to investigate.

"We heard a screech and then a bang, so we came out of the house and as we came out, I saw a large cloud of dust,” he said.

"She [the victim] was on the opposite side of the wall on a couch apparently and obviously when the car hit the couch, she was just lying there dozing off."

The widow told 9News she had only just finished paying off the Kalamunda home in light of her husband's recent death.

Emergency SES crews who attended the crash scene later spent about an hour stabilising the home before the car was able to be towed out.

The woman was too shaken to comment on the incident, but told 9News her husband had recently passed away and she'd only just finished paying off the home.

It is believed the car managed to veer onto the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing a power pole, before it crashed into the property.
