A woman who was involved in a stand-off with police in the eastern Perth suburb of Martin has died in hospital.

Officers were called to the Douglas Road home about 9am to help another agency at the semi-rural property, which Nine News Perth reported was owned by former Gosnells deputy mayor Rod Croft and his wife Janice.

The man remains in police custody.

A WA Police spokesperson said a couple in the home "made threats" once police arrived, which led officers to cordon off surrounding areas while they tried to speak with the pair.

The tactical response group, paramedics and firefighters were soon called to the scene but police confirmed just after 2.30pm that the couple had been taken into custody and the woman was being assessed by St John Ambulance.

The woman was taken in a critical condition at Royal Perth Hospital.

She later died in hospital.

Police said the homicide squad will oversee an investigation into her death and it will be treated as a death in police presence. A report will be prepared for the coroner.

It's understood her death was non-suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

A WA Police investigation was still ongoing and no charges had been laid.
