Man charged with shooting Indiana State Trooper withdraws insanity defense

JEFFERSONVILLE, In. (WAVE) - A man that was charged with shooting an Indiana State Police Trooper in Jeffersonville has changed his mind about pleading the insanity defense.

According to our partners at the News & Tribune, 80-year-old Oscar Kays made a motion to withdraw the intent to use the insanity defense in the case.

Kays is charged with murder, aggravated battery and resisting arrest after police state that during a December 2017 traffic stop, Kays shot ISP Trooper Morgenn Evans with a handgun, grazing the officer’s forehead and fleeing the scene.

His arrest was captured on the TV show “Live PD”.

Kays is set for a bench trial on November 12, where the judge will decide if Kays is guilty.
