HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — On the third Monday of February each year, we celebrate our American presidents.
Because of the winter storm that hit the area earlier in the year, some school systems are using the holiday for make-up days. Make sure to check in your city’s section if you are unsure whether there is school or not.
Here’s a list of city governments and services that are closed on Presidents Day, Monday, February 18.
Federal offices will be closed Monday.
Chesapeake
The DMV will be closed.
Hampton
Most city offices and city schools will be closed Monday for Presidents Day. Trash collection scheduled for Monday will be made Wednesday.
James City County
County offices and the courts will be closed. There will be no curbside recycling, but convenience centers and garbage transfer stations will be open. James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center are open. All County Parks are open.
Newport News
City offices, libriaries and the recovery operations center will be closed. Garbage collections will be delayed one day. The Peninsula Regional Center will be open regular hours.
Norfolk
All government offices (including libraries and recreation centers) will be closed. The Consolidated Courts Complex, the Commissioner of the Revenue, the Treasurer’s Office and the Norfolk Department of Public Health will also be closed. Requests for bulk collection on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 must be made before 3 p.m. on Friday, February 15, 2019. The Household Hazardous Waste and E-waste site will be closed
Portsmouth
The offices of the City of Portsmouth will be closed on Monday, February 18. There will be no trash collection.
Suffolk
City City Offices will be closed. Trash pickup will continue its routine schedule. Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA) Transfer Station and the Regional Landfill will be open. Suffolk Transit will operate on normal schedule. Suffolk Joint Use Recreation Centers will be closed with the exception of having scheduled youth league athletic practices. Suffolk’s four major parks (Lone Star Lakes, Constant’s Wharf, Sleepy Hole and Bennett’s Creek) will remain open. Suffolk Art Gallery will be closed. The Morgan Memorial Library, North Suffolk Library and Chuckatuck Library will be closed. Suffolk Tourism Visitor Center and Seaboard Station Railroad Museum will be open. Suffolk Executive Airport Terminal and Suffolk BBQ Co. at the airport will be closed. The field and self-service fuel farm will remain open.
Virginia Beach
Everything will be operating normally, but courts will be closed.
Williamsburg
City offices will be closed on Monday, February 18, 2019. This includes the Municipal Building, Quarterpath Recreation Center and the Williamsburg-JCC Courthouse on Monticello Avenue.
