Thousands Take The Polar Bear Plunge To Support Special Olympics Maryland

For the 24th year, thousands took a cold dip into the Chesapeake Bay to raise money for the athletes of Special Olympics Maryland.

The annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge took place Saturday and showcased friends and family getting together in the spirit of fun and supporting year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Individuals taking part in the plunge pledged $75 or more for the privilege of jumping into the ice-cold Chesapeake Bay in support of 8,033 athletes around Maryland.

The Plunge has become a Maryland tradition, attracting more than 10,000 people each year.

This year, plunge fundraisers raised over $3 million dollars.
