MEGAN SHE RAN OUT OF THE HOUSE : SHE’S LIVED IN FOR 54 YEARS. THIS HOUSE HAS BEEN A SPECIAL PEACEFUL PEOPLE. ESPECIALLY RUN THE HOLIDAYS AND THAT CANNOT HAPPEN THIS YEAR. FAMILY IS STAYING EIGHT WITH FAMILY OR POSSIBLY HOTELS BUT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR HELP AND THEY ARE GETTING IT FROM THE COMMUNITY. >> WHENEVER THE FAMILY CAN USE, WE WILL KEEP AND WHATEVER THEY CANNOT USE WE WILL GIVE BACK TO THE RED CROSS. MEGAN: THEY’VE SET UP AN AMAZON WISH LIST AND CASH APP TO HELP THE MATRIARCH OF THE FAMILY. EVEN THOUGH EVERYTHING IS GONE IS STILL, ALWAYS COMFORTING OTHERS. 93-year-old loses home in Annapolis fire
The Annapolis Fire Department hasn't determined what caused a fire at a home on Bestgate Road Monday, destroying the home and everything with it. The family said despite the loss, they feel fortunate."I'm homeless. I don't have anything," said Ja'Nai McKinney.It's hard to know how to pick up the pieces when they are burnt to a crisp. "Just looking at this house, I'm devastated. I'm in disbelief," McKinney said.It hasn't sunk in for McKinney. She and so many in her family called the burned down building home. "For us to not have this house, this is kind of a heart breaker. Where do go from here? Where do we start all over again?" McKinney said.On Monday afternoon the house caught on fire. McKinney's 93-year-old grandmother, Sylvia, was the only one home. "All she heard was a loud boom sound. She grabbed her purse, her keys and the dog and she left out the house," said relative Lisa DeJesus.She ran out of the house that she has lived in for 54 years. People would always come to visit or help out Sylvia McKinney, especially around the holidays. The family is staying in hotels or with family They are looking for help from the community."Whatever the family can use, we will keep, and whatever they can't use will get back to the Red Cross," DeJesus said.They've set up an Amazon wish list and cash app to help the matriarch of the family. Even though Sylvia McKinney has lost everything, she is still comforting others."She's in good spirits. She just keeps saying, 'Things can be replaced, but lives can't,'" DeJesus said.​
