Baltimore Beautification Project cleans up West Lanvale
Baltimore residents are taking it upon themselves to beautify the city.
The Baltimore Beautification Project held a launch event Monday in west Baltimore, where a group of volunteers cleaned up an area near West Lanvale Street and Shields Place.
Group members said they would like to hold a cleanup event every month, saying they were inspired to hold the event after hearing the president's criticism of Baltimore.
"We made national news for the filth in our city. So as a community, we have to come together and clean our community. We've been doing it, organizations have been cleaning the city up, but as a whole, we all have to come together. We can do it easier (with) everybody working together, we can clean it up much quicker and bigger areas," said Taurus Barksdale, organizer of the Baltimore Beautification Project.
The group said the city provided a dumpster to help with the cleanup, but it was quickly filled to capacity.
The group hopes the city will provide more dumpsters in the future.
