AND AT LEAST 10 OTHERS. >> THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I CAN REMEMBER SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENING IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD, BECAUSE IT’S PRETTY, HOMEOWNERS. KAI: POLICE SAY THEY GOT THE FIRST 911 CALL AT 4:30 IN THE MORNING. AND FOUND THE SLASHED TIRES. MOSTLY ALL ON ONE SIDE OF THE TREET. >> THERE IS SEEPING OUT AND YOU COULD SEE SOME SMALL CUTS. KAI: CHERYL ELDRIDGE HAD ALREADY REPLACED HER TIRE WHEN WE MET HER. SHE HAS CANCER AND IS ON CHEMO. Several car tires slashed in Baltimore's Northwood neighborhood
At least a dozen residents in the Northwood community in northeast Baltimore woke up to a frustrating and expensive problem Tuesday morning.Someone went down an entire block, slashing car tires. The neighbors 11 News spoke with said they were surprised that they didn't hear the vandalism while it was going on. Instead, they spent the day trying to get rides or new tires.James Brown's neighbor, in the 4600 block of Northwood Drive, rang his doorbell Tuesday morning and showed him the destruction: Tires were slashed on Brown's car, his wife's car and at least 10 others. "This is the first time I can remember something like this happening in this neighborhood, because it's pretty (much) homeowners," Brown said. Police said they got the first 911 call at 4:30 a.m. and found the slashed tires mostly on one side of the street. Cheryl Eldridge had already replaced her tire when 11 News met her.She has cancer and is on chemo and shelling out an extra $300 for a new tire wasn't in her plans."Uncalled for. If you don't have anything else to do and you're that miserable and that mean-hearted, you need to go get some help. But don't take it out on us law-abiding citizens and all. And those tires are not cheap tires," Eldridge said. "The fact that someone would just come and do something like this randomly is ridiculous and something just needs to be done about it. And it's not just this, it's everything going on in the city, period," resident Tierra Fleet said. Although neighbors said they're hopeful that someone's personal surveillance camera can provide some clues, at this point, police said they have no information about possible suspects."We're going to take turns, take shifts, watching this street for the next couple of nights anyway. I don't think they'll be dumb enough to come back -- I hope they don't," Eldridge said.Fortunately, some of the residents can turn the damage in to insurance. Baltimore police are still investigating this incident.
