The Baltimore County School Board proposed the 2019-2020 school calendar Tuesday night
Baltimore County Public Schools will have a week-long spring break in 2020, according to the school calendar proposed at the Board of Education meeting Tuesday night.
The proposed 2019-2020 calendar shows schools on spring break from April 6-10, the week before the Easter holiday. Schools would also be closed the Monday after Easter, April 13, according to the proposed calendar.
The first day of school for students is Tuesday, Sept. 3, the day after Labor Day, in accordance with Gov. Larry Hogan's executive order. Teachers and staff are scheduled to begin their year a week earlier on Mon. Aug. 26.
The current last day of the school year for students in the proposed 2019-2020 calendar is Friday, June 12.
Schools will also be closed on two Jewish holidays -- Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur -- which was a topic of debate in previous years. The proposed school calendar for the 2019-2020 year includes three emergency closure make-up days; Feb. 17, April 13 and June 15. All three are currently listed as days off for students on the proposed calendar.
If schools close due to inclement weather prior to any of those three days, they automatically turn into a make-up day for students. If there are four or more emergency closures, make-up days will be added to the end of the school year, starting on June 16.
