Snow falls across East Tennessee

Snow showers will gradually taper off this evening but black ice may become a concern overnight into early Friday morning.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Snow showers will gradually taper off from west to east this evening.

At times, the snowfall rate could be moderate to heavy and with temperatures staying in the 30s through the day with wind chills in the 20s, we could see some slick or slushy bridges and overpasses.

Due to colder temperatures and a longer duration of snow, totals as high as 2"-4" will be possible above 4,000 feet in the Smokies. The mountain peaks could see accumulations up to 6".

That is why a Winter Storm Warning and a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect of the higher elevations of the Smokies until 10 p.m. tonight.

Lingering snow showers will taper off from west to east during the evening and temperatures will fall into the lower to middle 20s overnight Thursday night. Winds out of the north at around 10 mph will drop wind chills into the teens.

**Any remaining liquid on roads will likely freeze and black ice could be a problem early Friday morning, especially on bridges and overpasses. Use extra caution on your Friday morning commute.**

As with any winter weather event, this forecast can change so check back for updates!
