BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Birmingham police say a 4-year-old boy is expected to survive after being shot in his home early Thursday morning.

"I want to say probably about eight shots at least I know I heard," said one neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified.

That was around 1 a.m. at a home on Callahan Road in East Birmingham. The house was riddled with bullets. It’s unclear where the child was inside when the shooting started.

Investigators believe there were a lot of people in the house, when someone outside started firing shots toward it.

“We believe that particular home was targeted,” said Birmingham police Sgt. Johnny Williams. “We’re not quite sure why, but we do know that there was a large group of people at this location when the shooting took place. And we believe this suspect, or suspects, stopped at this location and intentionally shot into that home.”

Meanwhile, those in the community are outraged that this happened.

“It’s a cliche now. Like, nobody values human’s life anymore,” said the neighbor. “People will kill each other over anything these days. That’s the first thing we go to is the gun.”
