CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A 22-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday morning in the parking lot of a southwest Charlotte strip mall.

Solomon Fleming Jr. was found with a gunshot wound just before 11 a.m. on the 7700 block of South Tryon Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This is Charlotte’s 71st homicide of 2020.

“Please don’t, if you’re watching this at home, become desensitized to the fact that another human being’s life was lost on the streets of Charlotte,” said Maj. Dave Robinson, with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. “That is critical. We don’t become desensitized to it. The community is going, “What can we do, we’re at 71 homicides?” It’s something that we take personally. It’s something that every detective, every crime scene technician, every police officer takes personally, and it hurts.”

No arrests have been made. No other information has been released.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective.
