A man was arrested Sunday after Gainesville Police said he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment.

According to the arrest report, Michael Hodgdon, 23, drove from Tallahassee to Gainesville wanting to speak to his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend. When he arrived at her apartment, she refused to speak with him.

Hodgdon then broke into the apartment through its French doors, threw her boyfriend over a desk where his head hit a wall and went into her room and took a ring that Hodgdon said was worth $500, the report said.

Witnesses who heard Hodgdon shouting and breaking in called police when they heard screaming for help.

Hodgdon was charged with burglary with assault or battery and grand theft. He was booked at the Alachua County Jail with no bond set.
