TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Tallahassee Fire Department says smoke detectors alerted a family to an early morning house fire.

The fire broke out around 4:12 a.m. Thursday in the 2300 block of Talley Lane, off of Hartsfield Road. Firefighters arrived on scene in less than five minutes to find smoke coming from the home.

TFD says a mother and three children were awakened by smoke detectors and had escaped the home prior to firefighters' arrival. One person was later taken to a local facility by Leon County EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the home. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is suspected to be electrical in nature and is currently under investigation by TFD’s Fire Prevention Division.

TFD was assisted at the scene by the Tallahassee Police Department.
