TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Tallahassee Police Department has arrested 29-year-old Xavier Barkley in connection to Thursday's fatal shooting at Clippers Barbershop.

TPD says Barkley is facing charges of homicide/willfully killing, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and kidnap of a minor under 13 years of age.

Officials say Barkley retrieved a handgun from his waistband and shot the victim inside the business, causing the victim to fall to the ground.

Authorities say Barkley picked up the victim's child and pointed the muzzle of the handgun towards the child's head.

TPD says witnesses pleaded for Barkley to release the child and began walking towards him before he pointed the gun at witnesses and ran towards the victim on the ground, shooting him a second time.

Officials say Barkley then released the child and walked away from the scene.

Officers say around 7:06 p.m., approximately two hours after the shooting, officials alerted citizens that Barkley had returned on foot just north of the crime scene and was immediately taken into custody and transported to TPD for questioning.

Barkley was transported to the Leon County Detention Facility for booking.

Authorities have not identified the victim.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A suspect has been arrested following a deadly shooting in Tallahassee, said an alert sent by the Florida A&M Police Department on Thursday night.

The shooting happened around 5:15 p.m. at Clippers barbershop on South Adams Street directly across from the FAMU President's residence, said Damon Miller of the Tallahassee Police Department.

"One person was found deceased," Miller told reporters. "Another senseless shooting."

The crime scene closed down a portion of South Adams in both directions while a massive police presence investigated the scene and pursued the suspect. Two helicopters with the Leon County Sheriff's Department assisted in the search.

Witnesses said the shooting stemmed from an argument and that the victim was one of the employees. About two hours after the shooting, witnesses said they spotted the suspect walking nearby. This led to a commotion from people who had gathered outside the crime tape with some of the crowd screaming and running.

Despite the alert from FAMU police, TPD has not confirmed a suspect was taken into custody and has not released any additional information.

TPD asks that anyone with information about this case call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
