Vermont State Police are investigating a suspicious death of a Boston delivery driver in the town of Rockingham.Police responded at about 5:45 p.m Friday to a call for a welfare check on the male driver of a box truck on Vermont Route 103. Troopers say they located the truck pulled over on the side of the southbound lane between Lower Bartonsville and Williams roads.Police say the body of 44-year-old Roberto Fonseca-Rivera, of Boston, was found in his company vehicle. It appears that he died of gunshot wounds, according to state police.An autopsy to determine the victim's cause and manner of death is scheduled for Sunday at the chief medical examiner's office in Burlington.Fonseca-Rivera worked for Katsiroubas Produce of Hyde Park, Massachusetts, and his last known location was leaving Rutland and heading south on Vermont Route 103 at about noon Friday.Police believe the shooting happened between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday near where his body was found on Route 103.Ted Katsiroubas, the CEO of Katsiroubas Produce, released the following statement just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday:"We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of our dedicated, kind and reliable co-worker, Roberto Fonseca-Rivera. We learned in the past few hours that Vermont State Police suspect foul play in Roberto's death. We hope the investigation is quick and successful. We are assisting in any way we can. We want justice for Roberto."Roberto's smiling, outgoing presence always brightened our days. This was a man who would stay after work and help coworkers, repairing their vehicles."The Katsiroubas family, which has been in business for 105 years, is deeply concerned for the safety and well-being of our employees. We are arranging for counselors to be on hand to help employees for as long as they are needed to deal with this tragedy."Vermont State Police said the southbound lane of Vermont 103 will remain closed as the investigation continues.Drivers are urged to use caution and take alternate routes if possible.Anyone who saw the truck on Friday afternoon is asked to call the Vermont State Police barracks in Westminster at 802-722-4600.
