Massachusetts residents are able to redeem bottle and can deposits again starting Friday.Bottle and can redemption requirements were suspended by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Attorney General’s Office on March 18, because of the coronavirus state of emergency. However, deposits continued to be collected.Starting on Friday, officials said retailers with reverse vending machines will be required to resume redemption of bottles and cans. Businesses that process redemptions over the counter will be required to resume on June 19. Officials advised that redemption facilities will need to follow social distancing, mark 6-foot space on the floor, limit occupancy in return rooms and clean machines prior to emptying them.
