Heat advisory in effect for Boston, Worcester, most of eastern Massachusetts
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory that covers the cities of Boston and Worcester, as well as most of eastern Massachusetts.
The advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Heat index values of up to 100 degrees are expected with hot temperatures and high humidity, according to the weather service.
The areas under the heat advisory include all of Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Plymouth and Bristol counties and parts of Middlesex and Worcester Counties.
The NWS advises people who live in areas under the heat advisory should drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Those who work outdoors should take extra precautions and wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduled frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
