ACCORDING TO THE INDICTMENT, THAT WAS ISSUED BACK ON AUGUST 8, WHICH WE LEARNED ABOUT TODAY, PATRIOTS SAFETY PATRICK CHUNG WHO OWNS A HOME IN MEREDITH NEW -- HOME IN MEREDITH, NEW HAMPSHIRE, BACK ON JUNE 25, DID POSSESS OR HAVE UNDER HIS CONTROL A QUANTITY OF THE CONTROLLED DRUG COCAINE. Patriots star Patrick Chung indicted in New Hampshire on cocaine possession charge

Chung, 32, accused of knowingly possessing cocaine on June 25 in Meredith

New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung was indicted in New Hampshire on a charge of cocaine possession, court records show.Chung was not in uniform or on the field for the Patriots' preseason game Thursday night against the Panthers at Gillette Stadium. The Belknap County Grand Jury indicted the 32-year-old and he was scheduled to be arraigned next week. Police said when members of the Meredith, New Hampshire police department were called to Chung’s lakeside residence for what the described as "a call for service" on June 25. "During the course of that call, the police obtained the evidence which has led to the current charges being filed," police said in a news release. Chung was not arrested at the time. Sources told WCVB police responded to Chung’s home after an alarm was activated. The source said the officers checked the home as they would for that kind of response. The source said that's when authorities spotted cocaine sitting on the table. Police said following their investigation, the Belknap County Attorney’s Office made the decision to indict Chung. The grand jury returned its indictment on August 8, charging him with one count of possession of a controlled drug. Possession of cocaine is a Class B felony and carries a fine of up to $2,000 and a potential prison term of up to seven years."We are aware of the reports regarding Patrick Chung," the New England Patriots said in a statement. "We will not be commenting while his judicial proceedings take place."The starting strong safety, who’s been wearing a red non-contact jersey in practice, has been recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.Chung suffered a broken arm during the third quarter of Super Bowl LIII. He walked off the field on his own power.Chung was reportedly absent from Tuesday's practice in Foxborough ahead of Thursday night's home game against Carolina. Chung was a team captain in 2018 and was one of the most used defensive players on the team, appearing in 18 of New England’s 19 games over the course of the season.The longtime NFL defensive star was drafted by the Patriots in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He's played nearly season in Foxborough with the exception of 2013, when he played for the Eagles. He was signed by the Patriots as a free agent in 2014, and has been a part of three Super Bowl winning championship teams. Chung was expected to be a starter in the Patriots’ defensive backfield in the 2019 season. The team and Chung had agreed to a contract extension in the offseason.In 2017, Chung spoke to a youth summit in New Hampshire, where he warned, "Drugs is not a way to go to have a successful life."

Chung was reportedly absent from Tuesday's practice in Foxborough ahead of Thursday night's home game against Carolina.
