School bus driver reportedly assaulted by Salem man

A Salem city school bus driver was taken to a local hospital after being assaulted by a man Tuesday morning.

According to a release from the city, the driver was assaulted when a man boarded the bus after it stopped to pick up students on Dalewood Avenue near Millbrook Street at 6:59 a.m.

The man then got off the bus and fled. He later was arrested by the Salem Police Department.

The man was charged with assault and battery.

The bus driver was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

No students on the bus were injured during the incident, though counselors are available at the high school if students feel driven to speak.
