Kevin Wayman

Kevin Wayman Jr., 32

Dover Police arrested a man Friday after they said he robbed a convenience store at knifepoint and slashed the clerk's face.

Police were called to the 7-11 at 449 South New Street in Dover at 2:54 a.m. on February 15, 2019.  There, officers said Kevin Wayman Jr., 32, entered the store and dropped a glass bottled beverage to create a distraction.  When a store clerk responded to clean the area, Wayman went behind the counter and stole two cartons of Newport cigarettes, police said.

The clerk confronted Wayman and snagged one of the cartons of cigarettes back; he followed Wayman into the parking lot, where police said Wayman pulled out a 4" pocket knife and began to struggle with the clerk, cutting him several times on the face.

Wayman fled, but was picked up by police a short time later at Governors Avenue and West North Street and charged with robbery, assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence, and theft under $1,500.

He's being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $59,000 secured bond.
