Wilmington Police officers on proactive patrol arrested a man they spotted firing a handgun a block away, authorities announced Friday.
According to police, officers on patrol near 7th and North Monroe streets round 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2019, spotted 21-year-old Nazjheir Lloyd firing off a handgun. Lloyd fled on foot with the firearm in his hand when police approached him, and attempted to toss the gun under a parked vehicle in the 700 block of North Madison Street during the chase, they said.
Lloyd was ultimately taken into custody, the firearm was secured, and police said they recovered 7.2 grams of marijuana and $467 in suspect drug proceeds from his person.
Several vehicles along North Madison Street were struck by gunfire, but no injuries were reported, according to police.
Lloyd was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited who also possesses a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and possession of marijuana. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $47,550 cash bond.
Police said 18-year-old Shamar Foster was also taken into custody at this time, in the 600 block of North Madison Street, after he was found in possession of 28 grams of marijuana. He was charged with possession of marijuana.
