WEBVTT SPECIAL SESSION. ANCHOR: 16 WAPT’S ROSS ADAMS IS LIVE AT THE CAPITOL TO TELL US WHAT THE GOVERNOR IS NOW ASKING FROM STATE LEGISLATORS. ROSS? REPORTER: RIGHT NOW, THE SENATE HAS BEEN BURNING THE MIDNIGHT OIL. RIGHT NOW THE SENATE HAS BEEN , DEBATING THE BP LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT. EARLIER TONIGHT, THE APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE PASSED THE BILL. THE PROPOSAL WOULD DIVIDE UP $700 MILLION FROM THE 2010 DEEPWATER HORIZON OIL SPILL DISASTER. UNDER THE PLAN, COAST COUNTIES WOULD GET 75% AND THE REMAINING 25% WOULD GO TO THE STATE. LAWMAKERS FROM THE METRO SAY THEY SHOULD GET BIGGER PIECE OF THE PIE. >> 75% IS A BIT MUCH. I THINK A MORE ACCURATE PEOPLE DISTRIBUTION -- EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION IS COUNTIES ALONG THE COAST, 50% AND THEN SPLIT THE REST, 30% FOR CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI AND 20% FOR THE REST OF THE STATE. >> WITH HAPPY B -- WE HAVE HAD THE BULK OF THE DAMAGE OF THE STATE. NOT ONLY THE DAMAGE THAT HAS INCURRED BUT THE DAMAGE LIKE THE HUGE AMOUNT OF THE OIL IS ON THE BOTTOM. REPORTER: THE METRO WOULD GET MONEY FOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS FROM BP FUNDS THE STATE ALREADY HAS IN THE BANK. THAT INCLUDES $8 MILLION TO COMPLETE CONSTRUCTION OF EAST METRO PARKWAY IN RANKIN COUNTY. ANOTHER $2 MILLION TO DEVELOP AND CONSTRUCT THE CLINTON-BYRAM PARKWAY AND JACKSON WOULD GET $50,000 REPAIR A BRIDGE ON HAWTHORNE DRIVE. NOW, WANTS OF BP SETTLEMENT BILL PASSES THE SENATE, IT GOES TO THE HOUSE. LIKE WE SAW WITH THE LOTTERY BILL, ONCE IT GOES TO THE HOUSE

Mississippi officials plan to spend this year's installment of $37.8 million in BP oil spill money on new and existing projects.Gov. Phil Bryant made the announcement Tuesday in Biloxi, outlining how the state will spend money from the federal RESTORE Act, which allocates most of the penalties from the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill to the five Gulf Coast states.The biggest project is $12 million to use the mud and sand removed from coastal areas through dredging to create new marshland across Mississippi's three coastal counties.
