Jefferson Parish voluntary evacuation order issued for Jean Lafitte, Crown Point, Barataria
Jefferson Parish has issued a voluntary evacuation order for the Town of Jean Lafitte, Lower Lafitte, Crown Point and Barataria due to approaching Tropical Storm Cristobal.The voluntary order went into effect at 7 a.m.According to the parish, residents should bring vehicles, boats and campers to higher ground as the storm is expected to bring high tides and heavy rainfall to the region.All of southeast Louisiana is also under a tropical storm warning. Saturday will be the final day before all of the region begins feeling the effects of Cristobal.Jean Lafitte Mayor Tim Kerner said high water advisory signs have been put in place to help drivers navigate roads in the event of flooding. The town has already prepared 32,000 sandbags and has 38 pumps placed around the area.The Town of Grand Isle has already issued a mandatory evacuation order, which went into effect Saturday.
