Recent traffic headaches on Hwy. 190 in Covington lead to action from parish, state
Over the past few years, drivers have complained about the nightmarish traffic on Highway 190 in Covington.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development answered their prayers by adding U-turns and traffic lights. But, there are new problems.
The new concerns have created traffic that some drivers have never seen. A spokesman for DOTD said a traffic light controller in the newly installed traffic lights malfunctioned.
The incredibly long traffic lines inspired St. Tammany Parish President Pat Brister to write a letter to the state asking for action.
"I sat in that traffic like everyone else did for a few days," Brister said. "It's unbearable to sit there for an hour, when you usually can do it in 15 minutes. We just want DOTD to know that we are in almost a crisis situation with traffic and wanted to make sure they are doing everything they can do to speed up this last part of that construction."
DOTD said they sent a crew to swap out the malfunctioning traffic controller.
