Salem man arrested after high speed pursuit in Bridgeport

A Salem man has been arrested after a high speed pursuit in Bridgeport early Tuesday morning.

According to a press release At 03:01 a.m. Tuesday morning Bridgeport Police Officer, Dave Janssen saw a gray Toyota Corolla at the Bridgeport Recreation Complex on Forrester Drive and the driver was acting in a suspicious manner.

Officer Janssen attempted to stop the vehicle as it was leaving the complex and the driver refused to stop and sped away in a reckless manner.

That is where the pursuit began.

During that pursuit, officers learned the vehicle was reported stolen in Monongahela County. The pursuit continued through streets of Bridgeport, Clarksburg, Anmoore, and Harrison County reaching speeds over 100 mph.

Bridgeport Police say the driver who was identified as 32-year-old Richard John Gillman of Salem was taken into custody. Officers discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.
