A line of strong to severe storms moved through portions of West Virginia Monday, leaving a path of damage to be surveyed Tuesday morning by the National Weather Service.

Tornado warnings were put in place earlier Monday for parts of Kanawha County and later Pendleton, Henry, and Grant counties after radar sites from Charleston, W.Va., and Sterling, Va. indicated that some storms producing strong winds had the capability of rotating and possibly meeting tornado criteria.

As of 11:55 p.m. Monday, Appalachian Power's website reports more than 20,000 outages in Southwest West Virginia while First Energy Corp reports more than 7,000 outages in North Central West Virginia.

Current local storm reports include trees and power lines down across Barbour, Lewis, Randolph and Upshur Counties.

There is no official confirmation at this time that a tornado formed or touched down in parts of the state. Confirmation is pending National Weather Service assessment.
