An Altoona business man was killed in a Harrisburg area crash.

Gustine DeGennaro, 81, owner of DeGennaro’s Used Cars in Greenwood, was a passenger in a car when it crashed on I-283 South in Dauphin County Friday morning. He was taken to Hershey Medical Center and died from his injuries on November 10.

Police said the driver, Gerald Mills, 72, of Portage suffered a medical emergency and lost consciousness. The car struck the concrete barrier on the Western shoulder before hitting a construction sign, also on the shoulder.

The car then traveled across both travel lanes and traveled off the Eastern side of the road and hit a guide rail end, just South of Chambers Hill Road overpass. The car became airborne and came to a rest on top of the Northbound guide rail facing south.

Gerald Mills was taken to Hershey Medical Center with serious injuries.

Darlene Mills and Winifred DeGennaro, both passengers, were taken to Hershey Medical Center with minor injuries.

All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
