WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - First responders are urging people to avoid driving on flooded streets in Wilmington until the water has subsided.

The Wilmington Fire Department and the Wilmington Police Department caution drivers to not drive through flooded roads.

As of 11:45 a.m. there is flooding on Front Street from Willard Street to Carolina Beach Road, according to Patrick Campbell, WFD Battalion Chief.

Front Street is also flooded from Red Cross Street to Orange Street in Downtown Wilmington.

Video sent into the WECT Newsroom shows a Wilmington Police Department officer assisting a driver who appears to be stranded from road flooding at the intersection of Front Street and Willard Street in Wilmington.

“Don’t risk it. Turn around, don’t drown. Even if it looks OK, don’t take the chance," said Jennifer Dandron, spokesperson with the Wilmington Police Department.
