Kentucky sees increase in COVID-19 cases

Our FOCUS team has been tracking the data since the start and we're breaking it down to give you the context to understand it.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With more people out and about these past few weeks, we may be starting to see how that impacts the trend in daily new cases. Our FOCUS team has been tracking the data since the start and we're breaking it down to give you the context to understand it.

First let's check out Indiana. The daily new cases are the blue bars along the bottom. The dotted trend line is average the new cases daily so we can see if that curve continues to flatten, and in this case, the Hoosier state is staying steady meaning people are getting sick but not at an accelerated rate.

But we're seeing a different trend this week in Kentucky. Follow that dotted trend line to the far right and you'll notice over the past few days those blue bars are taller than days in weeks past indicating an increased number of people positive. If this continues we may see that trend line tilt up.

More Kentuckians are getting tested, but the percent of the total tested that are positive has held steady at about 4% indicating the daily increase in new cases may be connected to the increase in testing. Dr. Stack on the Governor's team said the goal is a 3% positivity rate.

This is something The FOCUS will keep an eye on.
