Podojil scores hat trick, Arkansas continues to roll

— Arkansas freshman Anna Podojil scored a hat trick as the No. 13 Razorbacks blew out another Southeastern Conference opponent Sunday.

Podojil scored goals in the 25th, 52nd and 61st minutes, and Arkansas defeated Mississippi State 6-1 at Razorback Field. Podojil increased her season goal total to 10, which tied Vanderbilt’s Haley Hopkins for the league lead.

Podojil also had an assist Sunday to overtake the conference scoring lead, based on statistics entering the day. Podojil has six assists this season and 26 points.

The Razorbacks (11-2-1, 5-1-0 SEC) won for the third consecutive game and for the 10th time in 11 games. Arkansas has outscored Ole Miss, LSU and Mississippi State by a combined 13-1 during the three-game win streak.

Parker Goins (17th minute), Taylor Malham (43rd) and Stefani Doyle (48th) also scored goals Sunday for the Razorbacks. Goins and Doyle each have scored seven goals this season, and Goins’ two assists Sunday increased her team-leading assist total to nine.

The six goals were Arkansas’ most in a conference game since 2008 and the most allowed by the Bulldogs since 2013.

Mississippi State (7-6-1, 2-3-1) scored its only goal in the 41st minute when Niah Johnson connected on a penalty kick. Malham scored on a penalty kick less than two minutes later for the Razorbacks to extend Arkansas’ lead to 3-1 at halftime.

The Razorbacks out shot the Bulldogs 23-4, including 12-2 on goal.

Arkansas is scheduled to play at No. 17 Texas A&M (10-2-3, 4-1-1) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Razorbacks are tied with Florida for second place in the conference with four regular-season games remaining.
