Hutchinson earthquake felt in Manhattan and Topeka

An earthquake just outside of Hutchinson rattled much of northeast Kansas on Friday morning.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey's Earthquake Map, the tremblor struck just before 8 a.m. within three miles of the south-central Kansas city and registered at 4.2 magnitude.
Many people from as far away as Topeka and Manhattan reported feeling it, according to reports to the USGS and 13 NEWS. The agency says it's not unusual for a 4.0 earthquake to be felt by a large number of people living within a 60 mile radius - and Friday morning's quake was 1.5 times bigger and twice as strong as that.
Three smaller quakes, measuring 3.1, 2.6, and 2.7, were recorded in the general area over the next several hours.
