The Topeka Police Dept. has released the name of the 16-year-old killed in a southeast Topeka shooting Thursday afternoon.

He was identified as Joaquin Aj McKinney, of Topeka.

Investigators say McKinney was found shot in a car near SE 37th St. and Pennsylvania Ave shortly before 4 p.m. He was rushed to a Topeka hospital where was later pronounced dead.

Police have not released many details about a potential suspect. Witnesses did tell them that the shooter fled the scene in a blue sedan.

Officers were en route to another report of shots fired at another location when they received the call about the shooting. The earlier report, which came around 3:40 p.m., placed the gunshots in the area of SE Fremont St. and SE Irvingham St., near where a 16-year-old girl was shot earlier this week.
