Topeka hosts 'Night to Shine' prom for people with disabilities

Friday night was prom night in Topeka - and across the country.

Night to Shine is an annual prom event for people with special needs.

It's grown exponentially since its start in 2015.

More than 700 people came out to the Ramada in Topeka, doubling last year's number.

"Oh it's been really fun. It's my first time being here for this event. I really enjoyed it," said attendee Donna Murphy.

Grace Community Church partnered with the Tim Tebow foundation to make the night magical.

"It just does wonderful things for people to be a part of something like this," said Grace Community Church Pastor Louie Constantino.

He says it doesn't stop at the Ramada.

"It's happening all over the world tonight and there are about

200,000 volunteers all over the world who are doing this, 100,000 guests," he said.

Between limo rides, food, photos, and dances - guests had a lot to choose from.

"It really touches your heart to just see people be selfless and just say, 'Look, I may not have it all together, my life's not perfect, but I can love people unconditionally, and just show them a great time,'

that's what we're seeing happening here tonight," Pastor Constantino said.

The church is always looking for donors to put on the event as well.
