UPDATE: The Topeka Police Department has returned to normal accident reporting phase as of 7:30 A.M.

-----

The heavy rain and storms overnight have caused the Topeka Police Department to enact Walk-In Accident Reporting.

Drivers involved in most crashes are asked to exchange registration and insurance information, then report the accident at the Law Enforcement Center after the weather clears. You can also call (785) 368-9200 to report an accident.

Officers will only respond to crashes that are:

· Injury, possible injury or death to any person

· Possible impairment of a driver due to drugs or alcohol

· Hit-and-run incidents

· Incidents where there is a disturbance between the parties involved

· Any hazardous material situation

· When the accident results in major traffic congestion

· When there is damage to a vehicle to the extent that towing is required

Police did not say when they expect the procedures to be lifted.
