RESIDENTS of Bradford on Avon are to be consulted in the New Year on how traffic issues in the town can be tackled.

The move is part of a Key Evidence Review Board, or KERB, being led by Cllr Simon McNeill-Ritchie, Trevor Bedeman of White Stripe Crossings and Nigel Gerdes of Climate Friendly Bradford on Avon.

The council has allocated £500 to enable it to review all the traffic data available, including journey times, with a view to publishing a comprehensive report next year.

Their aim is to see how people view traffic in the town and to get a feel for the main issues and concerns.

Cllr Dominic Newton, the town council leader and chairman of its highways and transport committee, said: “We are not looking for specific solutions.

“Wiltshire Council has asked us to come up with outcomes for the county highways department to consider.”

These will include speed limits, traffic congestion, journey times, air quality, pedestrian safety and other issues.

Some residents have called for a one-way traffic system, while others want wider pavements, higher kerbs, and more pedestrian crossings or footbridges to allow people to cross roads more safely.

Drivers want the two councils to tackle traffic congestion through the town, which delays journey times and causes exhaust pollution.

There will be an online survey and public consultation sessions will take place on January 16 at St Laurence School, January 24 at the Youth & Community

Centre, and on February 1 at St Margaret’s Hall.

Times will be listed on the Bradford Town Council website when set.
