Back to school event happened in Lansing
Charlotte, Grand Ledge, and Webberville start the school year on Monday, Aug. 19.
The city of Lansing held its annual "Connect 4 Kids" event on Monday, Aug. 19, at the Lansing Center.
Many services were offered to local families including free haircuts for students, physicals and eye exams.
Immunizations were offered as well. Clothing and shoes were also available along with tips for parents on enrollment, and school transportation.
The event was held between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m with over 40 vendors participating in the event.
"So health, mental health, substance abuse... anything you can think of, the vendors are here today educating and empowering our families," Dr. Joan Jackson Johnson said.
Parents also had the opportunity to register their child for available head-start programs.
Organizers say the goal of an event like this one is to help families get the new school year started off right.
The event was sponsored by the city's Department of Human Relationships and Community Services.
