The Jackson County Office of the Sheriff announced they will not be pressing charges on an individual seen pouring flammable liquid onto a patrol vehicle.

The incident happened Monday, June 1, during peaceful protests that took place in the parking lot of the sheriff's office, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies said during the protest, one man stepped away from the crowd, walked toward a police cruiser that was blocking the gate, poured lighter fluid on the right rear corner and lit the vehicle with a cigarette.

Deputies said the fire went out on its own, causing minor damage.

The sheriff's office said evidence was obtained from the patrol car and the parking lot after the protest was over.

Deputies were able to identify the subject shortly after posting information about him on their social media platforms.

The sheriff's office said the 21-year-old man from Jackson spoke with investigators and took responsibility for his actions.

The sheriff's office said after speaking with Jackson County Prosecutor Jerry Jarzynka and considering the circumstances and minor damage caused, they will not be pressing charges against the 21-year-old man.
